Gold mining in Uganda has rapidly become a key driver of economic growth, offering life-changing opportunities, especially in regions with limited economic activities. For many Ugandans, mining has provided both employment and a path to financial independence. Spring Africa is proud to be part of this transformative journey, actively participating in the responsible exploration, processing, and export of Uganda’s gold.
Over the years, Uganda’s gold sector has experienced remarkable growth, with gold sales now accounting for nearly 30% of the country’s export revenue. In 2016 alone, Uganda exported gold worth $514 million, a staggering increase that highlights the country’s rising prominence in the global gold market.
Uganda is rapidly becoming a significant gold hub following the discovery of substantial reserves, with Spring Africa playing a crucial role in exploration, responsible mining, and transparent export. A major turning point was the June 2017 announcement of 31 million metric tons of gold ore in the Karamoja region, attracting global investment. Spring Africa’s operations are concentrated in gold-rich areas like Moroto, Amudat, and Nakapiripirit within Karamoja.
Despite other firms holding extraction rights, Spring Africa is a leading buyer and exporter, connecting local miners to global markets. They also source gold from Mubende, Busia, Kibale, and Masaka. With global gold production reaching 3,000 metric tons in 2023 and exports valuing US$482.3 billion, Uganda’s new reserves, supported by Spring Africa’s ethical sourcing and community partnerships, are establishing the nation as a rising force in the global gold industry.
